"Half Of A Yellow Sun" approved for wide release

The Nigeria Film and ViHalf Board (NFVCB), had earlier partially banned Half of A Yellow Sun film from wide release in the country.

The delayed by NFVCB, came after the board cited the current security situation in Nigeria and stated that the movie, which is a narrative of the Nigerian civil war, could incite violence.

It was gathered that three officials of the Board based in Lagos, had already watched the film, which had its international premier in Toronto, Canada, late last year, and had found nothing wrong with it.

After several reviews, the Nigerian Film and Video Censors Board, NFVCB, on Friday finally approved one of the most acclaimed movie from Africa, Half of a Yellow Sun, for wide release.

The movie, whose novel was written by Chimamanda Adichie, was however classified 18 and approved by the censor’s board.

The classification was announced Friday evening alongside over 70 other Nollywood movies. It came at a time the producers of Half Of A Yellow Sun already enlisted it for online viewing in the United States of America.

According to the censor’s board Corporate Affairs representative, Caesar Kagho, “all approved movies fulfilled the regulatory conditions stipulated by the NFVCB”.
